Friday 3 December

A trip to the dentist in Cambridge today led to me doing
22303 AE51 RXY from Waterbeach on route 9 and the 0735 from Littleport.

After the dentist i headed for Peterborough a jumped off a 55 at St Ives and ended up doing Olympian 16070 on the 21 from St Ives to Chatteris which allowed to me to catch up with a couple of X9'S

22301 AE51 RXW is seen in Chatteris at 1155 with the 1122 March Tesco to Cambridge

I then did
22305 AE51 RYA from Chatteris to March Tesco which was the 1035 from Cambridge and past
22303 AE51 RXY between Chatteris and March on the 1222 from March Tesco-Cambridge

22305 AE51 RYA stands at March Tesco waiting to work the 1322 to Cambridge

18292 AE51 VFW 1522 March Tesco-Cambridge (15 late at Ely angel drove)
18335 AE55 DJU 1635 Cambridge-Sutton Post Office
With thanks to Andy for the two sightngs above

This led to to start thinking that the X9 route now serves 3 Tesco stores Milton, Ely and March and wondered how many bus routes serve this many of a specific supermaket.

A few delays on the evening peak today
22313 AE51 RYN 0600 Ely-Cambridge
22304 AE51 RXZ 1635 Cambridge-Sutton Post Office, this bus is booked for a double decker and over crowding often occurs when a single decker is used which probably explians why it was 13 late when passing Waterbeach as people who are at the back of the bus and want to get off have to squeeze past all the standing people at the front

After spending the weekend with my girlfriend in Peterborough i had a day rider plus ticket and had travelled back from Huntingdon on the 55 after being faced with an hours wait at Cambridge for a route 9 to Waterbeach i decided to make the most of my ticket and have a couple of trips on the X9 so i travelled on 18335 from Cambridge to Ely Tesco where i only had to wait about 5 minutes for 22314 back to Waterbeach.

Fridays wanderings

Friday 8 October 2010

Hello all

My main aim for today was to head down to the south coast and photo stagecoach buses around Chichister and Worthing however when the alarm went off this morning i still felt tired so ended up doing an afternoon around Ely and Cambridge here are the sightings and pictures from today...

18340 AE55 DKA 0911 Sutton Post Office-Cambridge

18337 AE55 DJX 0922 March Tesco-Cambridge (12 late)

22308 AE51 RYD 1022 March Tesco-Cambridge

18336 AE55 DJV at Ely Tesco with the 1235 Cambridge-March Tesco which i had travelled on from Waterbeach

22309 AE51 RYF is seen in Ely with the 1222 March Tesco-Cambridge

I then travelled by train to Cambridge and headed for the bus station where

I saw 18336 AE55 DJV depart Drummer Street with the 1635 Cambridge-Sutton Post Office

and then

One of Stagecoach Cambridges dual door tridents 17079 (the other being 17078) arrived at 1645 (17 late) with the 1422 March Tesco-Cambridge this turn of duty is very reliable for having a double decker on it.

After arrival this bus then went empty to Cowley Road depot and returned to work the 1715 Cambridge-Ely 12 service which i travelled on but before that...

22302 departed on time with the X7 the 1700 Cambridge-March commuter express service
and

18335 AE55 DJU departed at 1716 with the 1715 Cambridge-March this is one of the few direct X9 buses that runs along the A10 from Cambridge and does not run via Milton, Landbeach or Waterbeach like they used to before the afforementioned changes in February.

Then as mentioned above i defected for a bit and took the 1715 Cambridge-Ely route 12 (17079) bus to Ely via Nemarket on a route that i had not been on before, i got to Ely Tesco in time to see

22305 AE51 RYA depart on time with the 1815 Cambridge-March

I was then taken home to Waterbeach by

22304 AE51 RXZ on the 1757 March Tesco-Cambridge which was on time.

Tonys first blog post

Tuesday 5 October 2010
Hello eveyone as Rob mentioned below the buses on the X9 that run through Waterbeach (there are still a few that avoid Waterbeach by using the A10 direct) pass right past my front door and if there on time the March and Cambridge bound buses pass within a few minutes of each other so i am usually able to see a few buses on the route each day.
Since the main changes with the x9 no longer serving Wisbech since February timekeeping was very hit and miss with buses occasionally running up to an hour late and some not showing up at all due to various reasons mainly awaiting drivers at Ely off late bound buses with on time buses being delayed.
The main problem was that with the route been 2 hours long and only a ten minute turn round in March drivers had to changeover at Ely to allow for proper brakes to be taken.
This problem was very much reduced however at the July timetable change with the buses now continueing to March Tesco and having a 40 minute layover.

Right enough of that now the sightings from today
22312 AE51 9YK 1035 Cambridge - March Tesco

17079 T679 KPU 1135 Cambridge -March Tesco
22304 AE51 RXZ 1022 March Tesco - Cambridge
18336 AE55 DJV 1235 Cambridge -March Tesco
22324 AE51 RZA 1122 March Tesco - Cambridge
22301 AE51 RXW 1335 Cambridge - March Tesco

We are Back!!

Yes, we are now back, After my visit to Cambridge yesterday iv decided to re-start the X9 blog.

The main blogger will be Tony Irle, living on the X9 route at Waterbeach, he is much more better placed than me to keep an eye on things. (That is until they see sense and put the route back to Wisbech!!)

To buisness then, yesterday i saw 22324 - AE51RZA depart Drummer Street at 1345, 5 late on the 1340 to March., 22308 done the X7 at 1700, and Trident 17079 - T679KPU done the 1715 to March, which for old times sake, i took to Ely. President bodied Trident 18059 was also on the X9.

17079 at Drummer Street Bus Station in Cambridge. It had arrived off a 12, and is seen repositing itself to do the 1715 X9 to March.

18292 rises again! Also been seen by Tony on the 1st April on the 0609 Sutton
Post Office - Cambridge.

Another Trident out to play was 18337 - AE55DJX on the 3rd April working the
1535 March - Cambridge and returned on 1735 Cambridge - March to be put to sleep
for the weekend. The start of the low floor invasion on the X9 from now on, it would seem.

What About Wisbech?

Thats a question thats never been asked before, im sure!

(before you read any further, the next few sentances are my own personal views, and iv made it clear i strongly disagree with the X9 being curtailed, not just because im left worse of, but, as i found out on the 13th Feb whilst talking to some passengers, loads of others will no doubt have been majorly inconvienienced. I do, however apologise for the spelling mistakes above)

Whats happening at Wisbech now we dont have the X9? Well, as was detailed back in Feburary, Norfolk Green are currently filling the void with there cheap interpritation of the X9 they call the 56. Using 5 leased Volvo B10Ms with Alexander PS`s leased from Stagecoach as follows

701 - P848GND
702 - P847GND
703 - P656GND
704 - R513KSA
705 - R917XVM

No, i cant work out why theyre numbered that way either. Iv seen a Optare Excel on the route aswell, predicatably when iv been on a life expired B10M going the other way, but maybe these Excels will feature more after April.

Below is a photo of 702 - P847GND departing Wisbech Horsefair Bus Station on the first day of service of the 56 back on the 15th February.

Well, its been a long time since the last update, and our man at Waterbeach has been keeping up with happenings alot better than i have. I personally havent seen an X9 working since it was cut short, having to make do with the handful of leased B10M PS Vehicles that Norfolk Green have got for the next few weeks.

So! Where now...???

Im pleased to say, the blog will stay running, mostly with contributions from Tony, as the X9 route has been revised to run via Waterbeach, Milton and Landbeach, as the route 9 does (or did, i havent studied the 9 timetable yet), and, very conveiently, now runs past his house!

As for things up at Wisbech end, the X9 has been, rather controversaly replaced by Norfolk Green and their 56. A blind stab at running to roughly the same times using B10M PS`s hired in from Stagecoach.

The 0605 Wisbech - March and the 1830 March - Wisbech no longer run, and connections between the X9 at March are NOT GUARENTEED!!! In my personal opinion this is all a load of rubbish now, and should never have been allowed to happen, but it has, and the timetable is subject to review in April, but at present im unaware what this might involve, but im not holding out much hope.

The B10s hired in are as follows

P847GND (702 with NG)
P848GND (701 with NG)
P846GND
R513KSA
R917XVM

The latter 3 i havent seen yet so cant confirm the fleet numbers.

Anyways. Enough of my ramblings, and back to some X9/9 sightings provided by Tony for the 15th Feb

The Last Day ~ Saturday, 13th Febuary 2010

Ever since i found out that the route was being curtailed between Wisbech & March, i wondered how i would go about the final day. Even on the evening of the 12th, i was still unsure. Even on the 13th, i was still unsure if im totaly honest, the only way to see the route off in style was to go out and have a bash. So we did!

Myself, Tony Irle and Dan Mears had a day out around and about, I caught the 0805 from Wisbech, with trusty 16592 - S592BCE, and as i got to March Station, 22304 - AE51RYC was going the other way on the 0730 from Ely to Wisbech.

Tony joined me at the train Station, and, just in time did Dan, where we formed the plan to take 592 to Chatteris, have the 0900 from there back to March to pick up the MAN to Ely. The 0900 from Chatteris was in the form of 16021 - P821GMU, which was pleasing, we took that to March Broard Street to travel 22304 to Ely. We was ment to spend time between March & Wisbech, but this never really happened until the evening. The rest of the afternoon was spent up at Cambridge, scratching a new KFC off the list, and a few other buses.

We took the 1540 from Cambridge to March, and for this we was given B10M 20534 - P534ESA. Not the best, but Dan was happy! He got his train from March to Nuneaton, which ment we had to go back to Wisbech on the 1640 ex Cambridge. The Last X9 to travel between March and Wisbech. So at least that part of the plan worked out. It arrived in the shape of 16592 again, so me and Tony took this back to Wisbech Horsefair, where i became the last passenger to alight from an X9 at Wisbech. The last X9 departure from Wisbech, the 1715 to Ely, was 20473 - M473ASW.

The driver on 16592 deserves a mention, for on arrival at Wisbech, he parked in bay 2, which isint good to photo, a quick request was made to shunt to bay3, which he very kindly did, and i thank him for that, unfortunatly, the blind had already been changed to Long Sutton 39, but i didnt want to be too greedy and ask for that to be changed!

The list of buses on the X9 route on Saturday looks like this (in no specific order):
16592 - S592BCE
22304 - AE51RYC
16021 - P821GMU
20573 - M473ASW
20534 - P534ESA
16591 - S591BCE
20857 - P857GND

And that was that. Id like to say a Big thank you to the drivers of the X9 for a great service, Stagecoach Cambridge for occasionaly giving me something unusual to write about, and also to the regular contributors, Jamie Armstrong, Adam Dowling, Mum and Tony Irle.

Some photos from the day out can be seen below!

16592 - S592BCE stands at Chatteris on the 0805 Wisbech - Cambridge

16021 - P821GMU stands at Chatteris on the 0740 Cambridge - Wisbech

20573 - M473ASW stands at Chatteris on the 0840 Cambridge - Wisbech

MAN22304 - AE51RYC on the 0905 Wisbech - Cambridge, with Nick dealing with passengers joining at Ely

Well, it seemed rude not to include a photo of a 9! 16587 - S587BCE departs Cambridge Drummer Street Bus Station on the 1510 to Littleport

20534 - P534ESA at Chatteris on the 1540 Cambridge - Wisbech, with Dan Mears stood under the wing mirror

And thats your lot! We finished the day how it started, with 16592 after terminating on the 1640 from Cambridge.

Nothing much left to say after that.

Thusday 21st Jan

Recently, B10M PS Volvos have been making a return to the X9 route, Tony viewed an un/id one on the 1240 Cambridge - Wisbech, and 20857 on the 1205 Wisbech - Cambridge, which was also seen my Mother in Wisbech, who also saw the welcome return on Trident/Transbus President 18060 - AE53TZM to the X9 on the 1105 to Cambridge. Going back to 20857 quickly, Adam D saw this in Cambridge on Wedensday to do the 1640 to Wisbech. I do wonder if the B10PSs are out on the X9 more in Winter because its colder, and therefor there less prone to overheating? Anyone whos been on B10M vehicles, weather coach or PS form will tell you (and i can!) that these are prone to running hot, with a decent roar from the cooling fans, but anyways, i digress.

Tony also text me to say that the 9 had 16590 - S590BCE and 16022 - P822GMU on it, to name but two.

Todays star act, 18348 seen at Milton, photo by Jamie, who apologizes for the quality, but at least we`ve got a record of it!
An intresting day, which starts and finishes with 16218 - R568DRP being seen on the 1440 from Cambridge - Wisbech

Mum phoned up at 1310 saying 18348 - AE55DKV was just leaving Wisbech Horsefair for Cambridge, so i phoned Jamie to tell him who got a photo of it at Milton. He was able to see it come back out on the 1540, so now as i type this, should be having a well deserved rest and a cuppa at Long Sutton

Then Gerard phoned up to tell me 16589 - S589BCE left the Horsefair on the 1405, got to the Horsefair roundabout and decided to expire in a cloud of smoke. This then casted a shaddow on what would do the 1640 from Cambridge, which gets to Wisbech at 1910

Paul decided to take the dog for a walk at 1900 along Elm Road, purly coincidental, of course, and saw 16218 on the 1640 ex Cambridge.

16218 done the 1715 Wisbech - Ely, which was turned around at Chatteris, and hopefully some other vehicle done the 1640 from Cambridge up to Chatteris, but what it was is unknown, if anything. The fact 218 was turned around, leads me to think it could have been an ALX300 bodied MAN.

SO, thats that, and with the sad news that the X9 will be cut short at March from Febuary, with the X9 at Wisbech - March being replaced by Norfolk Greens new 56, which wont be intresting, therefor this blog will cease to exist from Febuary.
