20513 departs Drummer Street on a 9 to Ely

Went down to London today via Cambridge, on the hunt for some more independant coaches and new National Express coaches, and journey down to London was on Ambassadors new 09 reg Scania Ceantano Levntes FJ09DXE, fleet 209. Very smooth and comfortable leather seats! Journey back to Wisbech was on FJ09DXC, fleet 208. Very good too.

Onto the X9 bits, got reports from Mum and Jamie today, aswell as my own, so a more borarder picture can be drawn of operations:

Running on observational texts from my mother, who reported 16130 - R130EVX at Wisbech Horsefair at 1555hours in bay 2, with no destination. I can only assume it was on 39s as it left at that time.
20513 - R513KSA done the 1605 Wisbech - Cambridge, a turn normally an Olympian, as it would run via Neale Wade on its way in on the 1340 from Cambridge. But since the little terrors are on 6 week break, this isint nessercery.

Thursday

10/08- Monday saw nothing but B10Ms in various states of shabbyness on the X9. There were 2 or 3 Olympians kicking about, but i only saw these from the house, i wasent able to go out and view them.

August changes & Sightings

16025 at Wisbech Horsefair after arriving on the 1540 from Cambridge. Recent service changes now see the last two workings from Cambridge to Wisbech (1540 and 1640) now form service 39 departing at 1805 and 1910. Unfortunatly for 16025, it is unable to show either 39 or Long Sutton, but since there was no souls onboard, i dont think itl trouble many people!!

34548 ~ GX04EZA with its weird LCD again on 39s. The only ray of hope for this bus is that its rear lights have been put on right

Another rather depressed bus is 16590 - S590BCE, seen here at the Horsefair, and seemingly dosent like its new advert!

Jamie Armstrong managed to photo an X9 exlusive today (Sunday) 36011 - AE07KYS, an Cambridge based Enviro 200 on the 1040 Cambridge - March.

Monday & Tuesdays Blog

Been a tad busy these past few days, restrictive internet access dosent help either!

Tuesday saw a first for the X9, 17697 - X707JVV, A Trident/President done the 1040 Cambridge - Wisbech and 1305 return, and 1540, but only as far as Chatteris, where 20857 was sent back to Long Sutton. Obviously, this would have left Cambridge a vehicle down for the 13 series of routes, which is X707s usual haunts.

Peterborough allocated 20848 - P848GND has been messing up things, due to having no transponder fitted, it cannot run through to Cambridge, so is having to be turned around at Chatteris.

Saturday

The saturday just gone (27th June) saw a few unusual vehicles on the route

16010 - P810GMU which is a Huntingdon reserve vehicle done the 1140 from Cambridge and the 1305 to Cambridge, departing at 1316 after the driver had a lengthy discussion with the relief driver!!

16026 - P826GMU was on the 1240 from Cambridge, running in the region of 7 early heading into Wisbech

MAN 22331 - AE51RZK supprised me the most by doing the 1040 Cambridge - Wisbech and 1405 return. Seen bang on time going into Wisbech. If it stayed on diagram at the Cambridge end, it would have worked back on the 1640 to Long Sutton, thus starting on one of the early turns today (Monday) any confirmation welcomed, but i think its likely to have been swapped for a B10 PS or the usual Olympian.

Also seen on saturday was 16589 - S589BCE on the 1235 to Peterborough, and 16593 - S593BCE was on the 1340 Cambridge - Wisbech.

On the 39s (Wisbech - Long Sutton local) on Saturday was newly aqquired Stagecoach Peterborough ALX20 Dart 33802 - R802YUD, ex Cambridge, and used to carry an all-over-advert for Anglia Ruskin University.

Peterborough PS 20849 - P849GND was the shed for the day.

Jamie Informed me today that a Grey Spare Enviro 400 went on a test run on the X9 on Tuesday, which hes been relaiably informed was a sucess, and travelled as far as Chatteris.

Gerard informs me that 16018 - P818GMU arrived Wisbech Horsefair today at 1308 on the 1040 from Cambridge, and 20513 - R513KSA paid a visit on the 1005 Cambridge on Tuesday.

16587 - S588BCE done the 1205 Wisbech - Cambidge today, with 33324 - P324EFL being in use on the Wisbech - Long Sutton 39 turns.

Yesterday, 20533 - P533ESA left Wisbech at 1355 to Cambridge, probaly as a result of the chaos on the A47!

17/03/09 ~ Tales Of A Trident

Today started off with a text message from Jamie, saying ALX400 Trident 17079 - T679KPU was on the 0645 X7, and will do the 0840 X9 to Wisbech

I checked the timetables and found this would later do the 1340 from Cambridge to Wisbech, which then does the 1605 Peterborough, which id planned to go on. Superb.

17079s day, therefor goes something like this.

0645 X7 March - Cambridge

0840 X9 Cambridge - Wisbech

1105 X9 Wisbech - Cambridge

1340 X9 Cambridge - Wisbech

1605 36 Wisbech - Peterborough

1735 36 Peterborough - Wisbech

And will now, presumably, berth at Long Sutton for the night, and will do either the 0540 Long Sutton - Cambridge, 0640 Likewise, or 0640 Peterborough. If it stables elsewhere, then, to be frank, i havent a clue what itl do!!

This isint to say, however, that 17079s day went trouble free.

17079 arrived at the Horsefair at 1604, 4 late and formed 1605 Wisbech - Peterborough which departed at 1613 after a lot of high pitched screeching from the cab, including the driver checking all the emergancy exits, but still the screech continued, as far as the Horsefair roundabout, when the what I can only assume was the burglar alarm kicked in! Eventualy, the problem was sorted and we moved again 1623, now 13 late. Arrived Queensgate 1715, 15 late.

Others on the X9 today are as follows:

16217 - R567DRP 1240 Cambridge - Wisbech 3 late arriving at Wisbech Horsefair and then done the 1605 to Cambridge departing 2 late at 1607

16212 - R562DRP 1505 Wisbech - Cambridge

16213 - R563DRP 1540 Peterborough - Wisbech approaching Wisbech St Mary 1630, stuck behind a tractor, and Jamie informs me it also done the 0940 off Cambridge to Wisbech and that 20575 - M475ASW did the 17.55 x7 Express to March from Cambridge.

Un/id Olympian 1340 Cambridge - Wisbech witnessed from my garden at 1600, and un/id B10PS thingy on 1540 Cambridge - Wisbech, witnessed from co-op carpark....yes it was a busy day for me today!! So, anyhelp with gaps would be most welcome!! Thanks.

16210 and 16588 (furthest) await 2 Cross Country 170s to depart March before proceeding. © Rob Brooks

Today i spent the day on the trains in March, but thankfully i was also able to observe a few X9 movements.

I travelled on the 0705 from Wisbech (0640 Long Sutton - Cambridge) which produced 16217 -R567DRP and was 3 early getting to March Railway Station. I also saw this on the 0940 Cambridge - Wisbech running about 3 late.

16214 - R564DRP done the 1105 Wisbech - Cambridge, and was seen passing March Railway Station at 1132, 6 early on its scheduled time of 1138.

20210 - N210LTN done the 1505 Wisbech - Cambridge, i saw this leaving its Broard Street stop 2 mins early than its booked departure time of 1540.

16210 - R560DRP, as seen in above photograph, done the 1605 Wisbech - Cambridge, and was 6 early at the Railway Station in March, and it met fellow Olympian 16588 -S588BCE, running 5 late going the other way on the 1440 Cambridge - Wisbech, which provided my ride back to base.

As you can see from the photo, the only working i managed to see today was the 1340 Cambridge - Wisbech, which produced Volvo Olympian 16214 - R564DRP, already blinded to do the 1605 Wisbech Horsefair - Peterborough Queensgate. 16214 was running approxomatly 7 late when photographed.

11/03/09 ~ The bus that dosent exist, but it does!

On Wedensday, i was traveling over to Wisbech as normal, and after checking the 36 timetable, i saw i could catch the 1235. Which was handy, because my 32 from Whittlesea arrived at 1230.

So i walked over to Ackland Street to see what bus id have, and 20530 was parked up, showing Wisbech 36. Not the best bus to have, but at least it was there, so over to Queensgate i went.

1235 came and went, and at 1300 i rechecks the timetable. Lo and behold the 36 at 1235 is from Wisbech! What a plonker i was!

Never mind, it gave me the chance to try out the Wedensdays only Route 390, which takes the very senic route to Wisbech, and the bus that was on it was Stagecoach In The Fens only remianing MCV Evolution bodied dart, 33311 ~ AE56MDN.

Anyways, back ontopic now, and the relevant X9 and 36 bits.:
20530 - P530ESA 1335 36 Peterborough - Wisbech. As already said, it was parked up at Ackland Street, and was then seen arriving Wisbech Horsefair at 1428, 2 mins early and empty.
16588 - S588BCE 1235 Wisbech - Peterborough arriving at Peterborough at 1332
16012 - P812GMU arrrived Wisbech Horsefair at 1504, 4 late on the 1240 from Cambridge, showing X9 Chatteris on the blind
20530 then worked the 1505 Wisbech - Cambridge.

10/03/09 ~ Wisbech Observations

13.05 Wisbech to Cambridge was 16012 - P812GMU.
20855 - P855GND went empty at 17.05 from Wisbech to Long Sutton.

09/03/09 ~ March Observations

This afternoon i found myself in March for a few hours, noted the following.

20855 - P855GND 1405 Wisbech - Cambridge 4 early march train station, then after a passenger and freight passed was ontime. Arrived cambridge 1620 Thanks to Adam D for that.

16587 - S587BCE 11 late passing March railway station at 1638 on the 1440 from Cambridge. It was allready late, and was delayed by the same two trains as above. I thought id missed the sighting!!

08/03/09 ~ Updates

Gerard was in touch yesterday and informed me of the following:

Thursday, 16587 - S587BCE arrived at Wisbech Horsefair at 1305 on the 1040 from Cambridge, 5 mins late.

Friday, 20854 - P854GND departed Wisbech Horsefair on the 1305 to Cambridge at 1307, 2 mins late.

Saturday, Adam informs me that 16212 - R562DRP was seen arriving at Cambridge Drummer Street at 1130. This would have been the 0905 from Wisbech arriving 7 late.

I also saw an un/id B10M PS on the 1640 Cambridge - Wisbech at March at 1840.

Thanks to those who have been able to send me info whilst i havent been able to go out myself.

04/03/09 ~ Wisbech Observations

20855 - P855GND done the 1035 36 to Peterborough and the 1335 return, arriving at the Horsefair at 1427, 3 mins early. It then went on to do the 1505 to Cambridge.

16217 - R567DRP done the 0840 Cambridge - Wisbech, terminating at 1102, 2 mins late. It then headed back to Cambridge on the 1105.

16214 - R564DRP was seen on the 1240 Cambridge - Wisbech, also 2 minuites late. This would have worked back on the 1505.

03/03/09 ~ A few bits

Monday 2nd, Jamie noted 16023 - P823GMU on the 1755 X7 Cambridge - March.

Tuesday 3rd, i was on works communications course in Ely,and noted 16591 - S591BCE swinging into Ely Tescos at 0850 on the 0640 Long Sutton - Cambridge running 5 late.

Gerard noted 16214 - R564DRP on the 1305 Wisbech - Cambridge.

26-28/02/09 ~ The Past Few Days

Iv not been totaly dedicated to the upkeep of the blog for the past few days, so i apollogise for that:

On thursday, Trident 17079 was back out earning its keep on the X9 by doing the 1240 Cambridge - Wisbech and inplace for the 1505 back.

Then also it should have done the 1740 Cambridge - Chatteris. Thanks to Jamie & Adam at Cambridge for the info on this.

Friday saw 17079 AGAIN out on the X9! and Olympian 16013 - P813GMU done the 1305 Wisbech - Cambridge. Thanks to Gerard for the info on the Olympian.

Intresting times ahead for the X9. Some service changes have been registered to change the routing and timetable, when these become clear i shall update the blog.

25/02/09 ~ Trident Fresh!!

Today saw the visit of 17079 - T679KPU on the 36 + X9, i saw it leaving Eye on the 1035 ex Peterborough, it then done the 1205 from Wisbech - Cambridge, where Jamie saw it arrive and depart on the 1440 back to Wisbech. Excellent stuff!!

Adam was intouch aswell to tell me that 16023 - P823GMU was on the 1340 Cambridge - Wisbech. This would have done the 1605 into Peterborough, this batch of Olympians are not too frequent on the X9.

The only thing i can add is 20856 - P856GND done the 1035 Wisbech - Peterborough

20854 - P854GND 1035 36 Peterborough - Wisbech. Left Peterboro 8 late and got to Wisbech 2 early, Then done the 1205 X9 to Cambridge leaving at 1210
20851 - P851GND arrived at 1200 on 0940 ex Cambridge then done 1235 36 to Peterborough leaving at 1244
16212 1300 arrival of the 1040 Cambridge 6 late at 1306, then formed the 1305 back again which departed at 1312
16214 - R564DRP 1340 Cambridge - Wisbech entering Wisbech 8 late
20110 - N210LTN 1605 Wisbech - Cambridge ontime.
16212 - R562DRP then turned up on the 1540 Cambridge - Long Sutton running 13 late from March Railway Station, got held up 4 more minuites by a pair of Cross Country units!!

19/02/09 ~ Mums the word!!

Today my mum and her freind had a day out in Ely, travelling on the 0810 ex Wisbech which provided 20513 - R513KSA they had a decent (not a word id use for 20513) ride into Ely.

It was on the way back, however that things went downhill

She travelled on the 1430 from Ely - Wisbech (1340 ex Cambridge) which turned up 20917 - R917XVM. Not a good start either way, but with the driver change over at Chatteris, a "young" guy took over, and mum and her freind are infrequent travellers, she wanted to know if buses stopped by the Post Office in Elm, but the driver, oblivious to her questions because he had his I-Pod plugged into his ears! It took her several attemps to make herself heard and when she did the driver was quite rude in his reply.

When my mums freind got the stop she wanted, my Mum herself then wanted to know if it was possiable to alight at the stop ajjecent to B&Q on the Elm Road. "I suppose it is" was the drivers reply in a "tone dripping with sarcasm"

Not the sort of tone you want to be using to infrequent (or even frequent) passengers. Needless to say, my Mum is now writting a letter of complaint to Stagecoach in Cambridge and i hope by putting this on here, some official people may take note of this chaps totaly unnessercery attitude.

16/02/09 ~ Empty Olympians

Today i travelled on 16218 from the Elm Road stop in Wisbech to the Horsefair, and then on it again to Peterborough, and both times i was the only passenger!! Until Guyhirn where we picked one soul up, and a few more in the Parnwell district of Peterborough anyways!

Jamie was intouch last night (iv been working night shift so apologies for the delay) and reported the following at the Cambridge end of things:

The X7 March Express was 16213 - R563DRP. A Nice bus for a change!! (in my own view - rb)

My own personal sightings for Monday are as follows:
16218 R568DRP 1340 Cambridge - Wisbech arrived at the horsefair 3 late, then formed the 1605 36 to Peterborough leaving 1 late, with the destination stuck on stagecoach, and a paper 36 Peterborough in the window.

At the Horsefair when i arrived was 20513 - P513KSA ready to do the 1605 Wisbech - Cambridge

On route with the 36, i passed 16216 - R566DRP heading into Wisbech on the 1545 from Peterborough. This then would have gone on to do the 1705 X9 from Wisbech to Cambridge.

Being at Wisbech today, all i had to do was walk 2mins up the road onto the A47 bypass and wait patently for a X9 to pass!

I intended to view from 1000 onwards, but a late night previous ment i didnt start my observatios until 1330!!

But what i did see, is something like this:

1140 Cambridge - Wisbech was 20513 - R513KSA entering Wisbech about 6 late

1240 Cambridge - Wisbech was 16162 - R162HHK entering Wisbech 3 early and then out again on the 1505 to Cambridge
1340 Cambridge - Wisbech was 16588 - S588BCE entering Wisbech 2 late

1440 Cambridge - Wisbech was 16216 - R566DRP entering Wisbech 10 early!!

1550 Cambridge - Long Sutton was 20856 - P856GND entering Wisbech 5 early

I was going to see the 1650 Cambridge - Long Sutton, but i had other things crop up and by the time i was free again, it would have been at its destination! Doh!

There wont be a blog for tomorrow, as the X9 only runs between Cambridge and March, but a service of sorts will resume on Monday.

10/02/09 ~ A slightly bigger picture

Well today i was able to get out for a few hours, and made a few notes on the X9 operations today, along with Jamie providing a few details aswell.

And its to Jamie i owe this first report of another first for the X9 route.

Stagecoach In The Fens allocated 33299 ~R566UOT, which is unique it itself for being a UVG Urbanstar bodied Dennis Dart with a ADL Pointer II front, worked the 1240 Cambridge to Wisbech, and was in place to do the 1610 back again.

Further digging reveals this bus is most likely to have done the 0835 36 from Peterborough Queensgate to Wisbech this morning!

I took a trip to Chatteris this afternoon, and observed 16591 ~ S591BCE on the 1405 Wisbech - Cambridge.

The 1340 ex Cambridge, i travelled on from Chatteris to Wisbech, arrived at Chatteris 1502 2 late and departed ontime at 1505, formed of Olympian 16588 ~ S588BCE, and ran via Neale Wade School in March, which i wasent expecting, plus no mention of this is made in the online timetables......we still made it to Wisbech Horsefair 2 minuites after our scheduled arrival time of 1600.

16588 then formed the 1605 36 from Wisbech to Peterborough which i had also planned to go on. enroute, i passed 16212 ~ R562DRP headding into Wisbech on the 1535 36 from Peterborough. This would have then done the 1705 X9 from Wisbech to Cambridge.

The evening X7 Cambridge - March express was Alexander PS B10M 20214 ~ N214LTN.

Today, Peterborough allocated Volvo B10M Plaxton Premier 52398 - P108FRS worked the 1740 Cambridge - Chatteris. With thanks to Adam & Jamie for the info on this.

16210 - R560DRP was on both the X7 express turns today.

X7 ~ 07/02/09

With thanks to Jamie Armstrong, who informed me that 16162 ~ R162HNK provided the traction for the 0645 March - Cambridge (0810) and 1755 Cambridge - March (1918) today

The X7 runs direct Cambridge - Chatteris, avoiding Landbeach, Little Thetford and Ely to name but 3, therefor, it owns its own little place in this blog.

Stagecoach In Peterborough Transbus Pointer II Dart 34537 ~ GX04EYL makes its debut on the X9 on the 26th January by working the 1005 departure to Cambridge. It also broke new ground by working into Wisbech on the 0835 Route 36 from Peterborough to Wisbech. This vehicle only worked as far as Chatteris where it was replaced by Volvo Olympian 16162 ~ R162HNK for the journey into Cambridge, because the Dart hasent got the nessercery equipment to operate the Rising Bollards in Cambridge City Center.

Here is the normal order!! 16590 ~ S590BCE arriving into Cambridge on the 1105 from Wisbech. 16590 was a cascade from Peterborough to Cowley Road depot in August 2008.

It begins!

Well Hello one and all to this new venture detailing the events on Stagecoach Cambridge`s X9 Route from Cambridge - Wisbech. With 2 journeys to and from Long Sutton in morning and evenings.

Id like to stress that this blog is NOT in ANY way connected to Stagecoach, i am doing this completely off my own back as a observer, and a fan of the route.

With some help from mates, i hope to eventualy build up a day to day profile of happenings on this intresting, and useful link route between the north end of Cambridgeshire and Cambridge itself.
